These watercolor pieces by AMANDA FERNANDEZ are all studies of masterworks, showcasing techniques of composition and color, while aiming to capture the elegance and serenity of the original artist’s subject matter. Each piece is also mounted in a hand-sculpted gold leaf frame, as such ornate and delicate frames are an integral, yet often overlooked, part of viewing classical paintings.

AMANDA FERNANDEZ makes sculptural work from polymer clay and found objects. Depicting imaginative scenes held in ordinary jars, they are meant to feel like tiny daydreams one could take off the shelf and open whenever a break is needed. For the artist, creation is an opportunity to bring dreams to life, to craft delicate moments of enchantment and beauty.

Artist Statement

AMANDA FERNANDEZ crafts miniature artwork to encapsulate grand
and fanciful experiences you can hold in your hand. With this body of
work, she pays homage to classical tradition with hand-painted miniatures, and then opens an exploration of her own whimsical fantasies through miniature sculpture.

Biography

AMANDA FERNANDEZ holds a BA in Fine Arts from SDSU. She has worked across East County San Diego for the past decade, serving as an art instructor, a teacher with the Family Arts and Literacy Program, a set designer and prop maker for the Kroc Kids theater group, and a volunteer at her local library. She currently enjoys her role as a Mixed Media Professional at the TERI Campus of Life, where she gets to encourage the creativity of the adults attending the program at the Center for the Arts.
